The finger pointing around the rupture of the Nord Stream gas line under the Baltic Sea continues, with theories and motives being attributed to a wide range of parties. It’s not an exaggeration to say that this event will further darken the already dire economic picture in Europe. Germany has been cut off from Russian oil and gas supplies since March, with energy prices up 46% year-over-year. This story is playing out across the continent, with a recent report on producer prices in the Eurozone showing a rise of 40% over the past year, almost entirely explained by soaring energy prices.
