Inflation may be Falling Faster than CPI suggests
The latest data confirms the pace of inflation is slowing. The headline consumer price index increased 0.4% for the second month in a row in October, and core inflation rose 0.3% compared with 0.6% in the prior month. Year-over-year CPI rose 7.7%, below analysts’ expectations of 7.9%. Core inflation was also lower than expected at 6.3%. While year-over-year numbers get a lot of attention, monthly changes give a timelier read on where inflation is trending.
