A recent blast of arctic weather paralyzed much of San Antonio and did what even the pandemic frequently couldn’t do: It forced residents to stay home.
Businesses struggling to regain their footing as the pandemic slogs on again had to close their doors or curtail hours. The ones that stayed open dealt with supply chain disruptions or power outages brought on by Texas’ power grid being pushed to its limits.
San Antonio is a resilient city, so the storm shouldn’t have long-term ramifications, said Alan Adelman, a senior research analyst with Frost Investment Advisors in San Antonio.
“The net-net of it is, I think it will be a drag. But that’s in the very short term,” he said of the storm. “I don’t want to sound Pollyanna, but … I have a bird’s-eye view of just how dynamic the economy here is in San Antonio, and diverse…. We’ll move on.”
